Techirghiol

The Techirghiol resort, situated on the border of the lake with the same name, became a watering place in 1899. The healing factors can be found in the salted water of the lake. The natrium and magnesium chlorides, the natrium iodide and the therapeutic mud containing multiple salts prevail. The Techirghiol lake is recommended for treatment with mud and baths, for locomotory and rheumatism diseases.

Aquarium

The aquarium was founded on may 1-st, 1958, and is visited by more than 500.000 people every year. His patrimony, represented exclusively by the living aquatic fauna, contains species of salted and fresh water, native and exotic fish, as well as some marine invertebrate species. Among these, the sturgeon collection is the biggest in the world.

Planetarium

The technical patrimony of The Planetarium, inaugurated in 1969, contains a Zeiss projector, model ZKP1 and ZKP2, auxiliary astronomical devices, instruments for observations, like small and big telescopes. The Planetarium hosts the exhibition "The civilization of the Cosmos".

The archaeology and national history museum

This museum shelters ancient art objects, collections belonging to the Hamangia culture, godess Fortuna's marble statue, together with Pontos, god of The Black Sea, or the statue of the Glycon serpent (an asian divinity). The magnificent roman mosaic and the columns from the archaeological park are testimonies of the prosperous roman period. These columns form a true gallery in open air.

Dolphinarium

The dolphinarium from Constanta was opened on june 1-st, 1972. It is the first museal form of this type from our country and the first from the S-E Europe.

Three subspecies of dolphins live in The Black Sea: Phocaena phocaena relicta, Delphinus delphis ponticus and Tursiops truncatus ponticus. Dolphins are aquatic mammals that breathe atmospheric oxygen and give birth to offsprings, which are nursed. Their kind and friendly behaviour towards the humans and their intelligence facilitate the training process based on forming some conditioned reflexes stimulated by food.

The Danube Delta

An exotic region with over 1200 species of trees and plants, with the richest ornithologic fauna on the continent (over 300 species, among which unique pelican colonies). There are also over 100 species of fish, among which we can find the sturgeon. The Danube Delta is the biggest reservation of wet lands in Europe. It covers an area of 2.681 km2.

In 1990 UNESCO included The Danube Delta, the newest relief form in Romania, among the biosphere reservations.
